Intervention Report on World of Words

This What Works Clearinghouse intervention report summarizes the evidence on World of Words. World of Words is a preschool program that aims to accelerate the development of children’s vocabulary knowledge, concept knowledge, and content knowledge in science through topic-centered conversations and shared book readings. The WWC identified eight studies that investigated the effectiveness of the program. Of these eight studies, four meet WWC standards and contribute to the summary of evidence in this intervention report. The World of Words studies included outcome measures that fit within the language domain. Based on a sample of 992 students, the research provides strong evidence that World of Words improved students’ language skills.
