Postsecondary Coursetaking and Financial Aid for Fall 2009 Ninth-Graders Who Enrolled in Postsecondary Education After High School

A new data release, the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) Postsecondary Education Transcript Study and Student Financial Aid Records Restricted-use Data File, provides information on the postsecondary coursetaking and financial aid awards of fall 2009 ninth-graders who enrolled in postsecondary education after high school. The release consists of public-use data and restricted-use data, collected as part of the Postsecondary Education Transcript Study and Student Financial Aid Records Collection (PETS-SR) of the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09). HSLS:09 follows a nationally representative sample of students who were ninth-graders in fall 2009 from high school into postsecondary education and the workforce. The PETS-SR data allow researchers to examine postsecondary coursetaking experiences and financial aid awards for the subset of fall 2009 ninth-graders who enrolled in postsecondary education after high school.

The previously released High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09): A First Look at the Postsecondary Transcripts and Student Financial Aid Records of Fall 2009 Ninth-Graders report provides selected findings using the PETS-SR data and is available at https://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2020003.

The public-use data are available via the web-based Online Codebook at https://nces.ed.gov/onlinecodebook. Online Codebook users can explore frequency distributions and select variables for download from the HSLS:09 public-use dataset.

The restricted-use data are available on a DVD that includes plain text data files and an electronic codebook application. The data are available at no cost. A license is required to access the restricted-use data files. Details on obtaining a restricted-use license are available at https://nces.ed.gov/statprog/instruct.asp.
