2 New Reprts on School and District Leadership

Education Commission of the States has tracked and reported annually on legislation pertaining to school and district leaders for three years. In that time, enacted legislation has centered on three areas: alternative licensure, professional development and evaluations.

Principals are a critical piece of any school improvement effort, and while much of that direction comes at the local level, there are opportunities for state policy to define roles, establish statewide support systems and leverage funding to engage these leaders in school improvement processes.

This new Policy Brief shares more about these policy opportunities, citing specific state examples and initiatives.

For broader context and information on supporting both school and district leaders across the continuum of their careers, see this new Policy Snapshot, which captures all related state legislative activity in 2019.
