Network for Public Education's report card on each state’s commitment to its public schools



Network for Public Education has issued a report card  to assess each state’s commitment to its public schools and to let the public know what policies and practices will make their public schools stronger. The report card explains the methodology used to rate the states on six criteria, and why these criteria are so important.

The criteria, and the overall national score are as follows:

  • Resistance to Privatization D
  • The Professionalization of Teaching D
  • School Finance D
  • Spend Taxpayer Resources Wisely D
  • No High Stakes Testing C
  • Chance for Success D

No state received an overall A or B on the report card.
