New Report: 2024 Science at Grade 8

 

This report presents selected results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2024 science assessment. The report includes national results on the performance of eighth-grade students. Results are presented in terms of an average overall science score (on a 0 to 300 scale), change in performance compared to previous NAEP Science administrations, and as percentages of students performing at or above three NAEP achievement levels: NAEP Basic, NAEP Proficient, and NAEP Advanced. In addition to the overall average scale score, NAEP science results are also reported as average scores for each of three content areas —Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth and Space Sciences. Results are reported for students overall and for selected groups, such as by race/ethnicity, sex, socioeconomic status, students with disabilities, and English learner status. The report also provides information about student performance on sample assessment questions as well as data related to students’ opportunities to engage in science at school and outside of school.
