Children’s and parental screen use and children’s language development

This study examined associations between children’s and parental screen use and children’s language development. Across latent growth models, primary parents’ smartphone screen time was associated with slower growth in children’s receptive vocabulary, although this pattern was not observed for receptive grammar. In addition, children’s ownership of digital devices was associated with lower baseline scores in both receptive vocabulary and receptive grammar. These findings were robust to adjustment for parental education and household income.
