Education plans, book review, Trump's Head start proposal

A presidential candidate drops a new education plan. A new book details the practices of one of the nation’s highest performing — and polarizing — charter school networks. And then all of edu-Twitter is afire with hot takes, long threads, and far too many mentions. These quick responses can leave little room for nuance and prevent us from asking the tough, necessary questions required to push public figures and challenge our own thinking.

The two latest cases to cause a splash — Sen. Elizabeth Warren's education plan and Robert Pondiscio's How the Other Half Learns — are causing a stir because they deal with charter schools. Charter schools aren't perfect, and they elicit strong opinions on either side of the ideological spectrum.

Bellwether Education Partners provides diverse commentary on these issues. Relevant examples include Chad Aldeman's responses to both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren's education plans, his review of Robert Pondiscio's book, and Sara Mead's take on President Trump's proposal to shorten the amount of time kids spend in Head Start programs each day.
