How much does academic performance vary among school districts and
communities in the U.S.? How much of that variation is due to the
socioeconomic context of the schools and the socioeconomic background of
the students? How do test scores vary by race within and between
districts?
This short report uses new data from the
Stanford Education Data Archive to investigate these questions. It is a working draft that
will be updated in the next few weeks. The intended purpose is to
highlight key patterns of academic achievement across the country.
