"Projections of Education Statistics to 2023": data on enrollment, teachers, graduates, and expenditures


Enrollment in elementary and secondary schools rose 4 percent between 1998 and 2011 and is projected to increase an additional 4 percent between 2011 and 2023. Projections of Education Statistics to 2023 provides national-level data on enrollment, teachers, high school graduates, and expenditures at the elementary and secondary level and enrollment and degrees at the postsecondary level for the past 15 years and projections to the year 2023. This is the 42nd edition of a publication first initiated in 1964.

Other findings include:

* Postsecondary enrollment rose by 42 percent between 1998 and 2012, and is projected to increase another 15 percent by 2023;

* The number of high school graduates increased by 25 percent between 1998-99 and 2011-12, and a decrease of 2 percent is projected by 2023-24; and,

* After adjusting for inflation, current expenditure per pupil increased by 30 percent between 1998-99 and 2010-11, and a further increase of 20 percent is projected by 2023-24.
