91%: the SBAC test is NOT a useful indicator of teacher or administrator effectiveness; 85%: SBAC has not helped student learning

The Connecticut Association of School Administrators released the results of a member survey that shows the current model of student testing and teacher evaluations are not working.

The survey was conducted from January 20th-February 1st and 320 public school administrators from throughout the state responded. Specific results include:

1. 91% of survey respondents believe that the SBAC test is NOT a useful indicator of teacher or administrator effectiveness and 85% of administrators believe that SBAC has not helped student learning
2. The SBAC test is not developmentally or technologically appropriate for many students, and difficult for disabled and ELL students
3. 85% support replacing the SBAC test at all grade levels with a new assessment tool that is Connecticut specific
4. The majority of administrators surveyed believe that students, teachers and administrators are NOT benefiting from new teacher evaluation requirements
5. Over 80% believe that the time required to perform teacher evaluations interferes substantially with other administrator responsibilities; over 64% of respondents indicated spending more than 2 hours on EACH teacher evaluation
